We are proud to announce that Yaping Zhao, a PhD candidate at our Imaging Systems Laboratory supervised by Prof. Edmund Y. Lam, has been awarded Third Prize at the 10th Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (HKUSIEC), organized by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association (HKNGCA). His project, “Compressive Imaging Systems for Efficient Visual Intelligence,” showcases the innovative work being done right here at ISL.
This prestigious competition offers a platform for students to present entrepreneurial and innovative projects. The winners, including Yaping’s project, will represent Hong Kong at international competitions such as the China International College Students’ “Internet +” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and the “Challenge Cup” China College Students Entrepreneurship Competition. These platforms are widely recognized for promoting the best in global youth entrepreneurship and innovation.
Yaping’s project utilizes advanced optical compressive imaging systems combined with the latest in compressive imaging technology and deep learning methods. This system is pivotal for applications requiring rapid response and high mobility, such as autonomous driving and urban surveillance. By enhancing the efficiency and expanding the potential applications of visual systems, Yaping’s work is setting new standards in the field. This technology not only reduces processing time and hardware demands but also provides real-time interactive feedback, which is critical for operational success in various scenarios.
We extend our warmest congratulations to Yaping and Prof. Edmund Y. Lam for their remarkable achievement and look forward to seeing further contributions to the field. For more details about the HKUSIEC, please visit this website.
