On Wednesday, July 17, Jingyan Chen from Hong Kong University presented innovative research at the Applied Industrial Spectroscopy session of the conference. The session, titled “Agriphotonics, Food and Water Safety,” took place from 14:00 to 16:00 CET in Ariane 2, under the guidance of Heidi Ottevaere from Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

The talk, titled “Rapid Identification of Microplastics Through Spectral Reconstruction From RGB Images,” introduced a new method for generating hyperspectral bands and extracting spectral signatures from RGB images. This approach significantly enhances the efficiency of identifying microplastics by reducing imaging time and streamlining the spectroscopic analysis process.
Jingyan Chen’s presentation highlighted the practical applications of this method in environmental monitoring and safety, emphasizing its potential impact on improving current practices in microplastic identification. This session drew attention to the critical issue of microplastic pollution and the innovative steps being taken to address it through advanced spectroscopic techniques.
